Election Updates

Governor:

Ohio’s Primary Election was held on Tuesday, May 4 and, as predicted, Gov. Ted Strickland will be the Democratic candidate for governor, and former Congressman John Kasich will be the Republican nominee. Early polls have shown that the election for governor will be very close.

The most recent campaign finance filing report showed Gov. Strickland having more than $7.6 million on hand, while Kasich reported $5.7 million.

 

 

U.S. Senate
After a competitive primary against Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, current Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher will be the Democratic nominee and will be challenged by Republican Rob Portman in a showdown to replace retiring U.S. Senator George Voinovich.
 

Ohio Secretary of State
Jon Husted, Ohio State Senator and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, will be the Republican candidate for Secretary of State and will be challenged by Democratic nominee, Mary Ellen O’Shaughnessey. Husted filed with more than $2.2 million on hand, while O’Shaughnessy filed with $459,007.
 

Ohio Auditor
David Pepper, the Democratic nominee for State Auditor will be challenged by Republican nominee David Yost. Yost won a primary challenge by Tea Party endorsed candidate, Seth Morgan. Pepper has $1.2 million on hand, and Yost has $37, 695.
 

Ohio Attorney General
Incumbent Richard Cordray (D) will face off against Republican nominee Mike DeWine for the office of Attorney General. Cordray reportedly has more than $3 million on hand, while DeWine has more than $1.2 million on hand.
 

Ohio Treasurer
Kevin Boyce, incumbent and Democratic nominee for Treasurer, will be challenged by Josh Mandel. Mandel reported more than $2.5 million on hand, and Boyce reported with $1 million on hand.
 

Ohio Supreme Court
Interim Chief Justice Eric Brown will be challenged by sitting Justice Maureen O’Connor. Justice Brown filed with more than $177,000 on hand, while Justice O’Connor filed with more than $305,000 on hand.

Sitting Justice Judith Lanzinger, who is running for her second term on the bench, is being challenged by Judge Mary Jane Trapp. Lanzinger filed with more than $231,000 on hand, and Trapp filed with more than $129 on hand.

Justice Paul Pfeifer is also up for re-election, he is running unopposed.
