Training for Physicians to Assist Patients in Becoming Tobacco-Free

May 6-9th | Dublin Integrated Education Center

Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) Certification Training, sponsored by The Breathing Association, provides professionals with the opportunity to become certified in the treatment of tobacco dependence.  This four-day in-person course (along with three at-home webinars) is certified for up to 30 AMA PRA Category 1™ credits by the Ohio State Medical Association. The course is designed after the Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence (ATTUD)’s TTS core competencies.

“Ohio has a higher rate of tobacco use than most states, and smoking-related diseases claim nearly 20,000 lives in the state each year. Physicians and other healthcare providers see the effects of chronic diseases from tobacco use every day, but often lack the education and tools to effectively treat tobacco dependence. The Breathing Association’s Tobacco Treatment Specialist program provides skills in health behavior change, counseling, and treatment for tobacco addiction. The program uses evidence-based guidelines for tobacco cessation, emphasizing a team approach that is useful for physicians, behavioral health specialists, nurses, respiratory care professionals, and pharmacists, among others in the healthcare community” says Tom Houston, MD, faculty member for the TTS training.

“Wonderful speakers, very good information. Really enjoyed learning about Motivational Interviewing.”
