Leadership to Hold Virtual Town Hall with IMG Section Members

On Thursday, November 16^th the leadership of the OSMA IMG Section plans to hold a virtual town hall open to all IMG OSMA members. Last month leadership met to discuss future programming activities and felt it was important to first meet with any interested members to discuss issues of most concern to IMGs in Ohio. We plan for this to be a forum for open dialogue so we hope that members that are available will attend.

OSMA Promotes IMG Recognition Week (Oct. 15-19)

An initial focus of our leadership group was to let all OSMA members know that we now have an IMG section and to recognize all OSMA members that are IMGs. As part of that effort we felt it was important to promote IMG Recognition week (occurred the week of Oct 15-19). To do so, OSMA emailed all members the prior week to inform them about the recognition week and to identify the IMG leaders. Additionally, OSMA used its social media channels to promote the week. With more time to plan, we hope to add some additional communications and programming to the recognition week next year. If you have any ideas, please let us know or bring them to the town hall.

Ohio Department of Health Conrad 30 J-1 Visa Waiver Program

At our first meeting of the IMG leadership, we discussed some initial policy areas we believe our Section should pursue. We have heard from other IMGs that Ohio, compared to other states, is slow to notify graduating residents and fellows regarding acceptance in Ohio's Conrad 30 J-1 visa waiver program. OSMA staff has reached out to ODH staff so we can start a conversation with them about how the process is currently being administered and how it might be approved. We hope this is the first of many issues directly affecting International Medical Graduates that we can work on moving forward in Ohio.

OSMA Annual Meeting Hold-The-Date

We hope to continue to increase the IMG presence at the OSMA annual meeting in 2024. We will discuss the opportunities to participate at our town hall meeting, but we want to ensure interested people know the date. Mark your calendar for April 6 and 7, 2024 in Columbus. More details to come in January.
