 OSMA Applauds Introduction of Major
 Insurance Reform Legislation

Elected officials in the Ohio House and Senate have introduced eight new legislative proposals that prioritize patient interests over insurance companies. OSMA is proud to be actively supporting this series of insurance reform initiatives, all of which aim to shed light on the extreme burden insurers are placing on our healthcare system. The eight bills seek to stop the disruption to patient care caused by insurance companies, which can lead to delays and denials of medically-necessary and even life-saving treatments. If your medical staff leadership is interested in supporting these important advocacy initiatives, please contact us!

OSMA Files Brief to Protect Expert Medical
 Testimony in Medical Malpractice Cases

Joined by the AMA, the Ohio Hospital Association, and the Ohio Osteopathic Association, OSMA recently filed a brief with the Supreme Court of Ohio to protect the use of expert testimony for physicians in medical malpractice cases. This case concerns allegations of medical negligence against a physician where the admissibility of expert testimony became a focal point. In short, the defendant physician and his orthopedic practice received a unanimous jury verdict in a case involving a popliteal injury following a knee replacement surgery. The core issue revolved around whether the medical provider acted within the standard of care expected in similar circumstances.
