Together, with several health care and civil justice partners, OSMA has filed an amicus brief at the Ohio Supreme Court in support of the state’s non-economic damages cap for medical malpractice cases. OSMA’s position emphasizes that these caps remain an important safeguard for Ohio physicians. By preventing unpredictable noneconomic verdicts, the law has helped keep malpractice insurance predictable and available—supporting physician retention and recruitment across Ohio for more than two decades. OSMA Joins Lawsuit Against MultiPlan & Leading Insurance Companies Over Health Care Price-Fixing
On August 12, the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) joined a federal multi-district litigation (MDL) against MultiPlan (recently rebranded to Claritev) and major insurers, including UnitedHealth, Elevance, Humana, Aetna, and Cigna, alleging they conspired to systematically underpay physicians for reimbursements for out-of-network services, which often fail to even cover operating costs.
OSMA joins the American Medical Association (AMA) and thousands of physician practices and facilities nationwide in this growing antitrust litigation. Physicians who believe they have been harmed by MultiPlan and the insurance companies can obtain a free case evaluation from a court-appointed firm Learn More & Take Action >
