Attention RFS Members:

Help OSMAPAC Endorse 2026 Candidates!

Briefly, the usual OSMA-PAC endorsement process for State House, State Senate, Governor, US House, and US Senate elections is that a list of recommended endorsements by race is presented to the PAC for a vote.
 
Broadly speaking, this list is created using a combination of factors:
  1. Answers (or lack thereof) of a candidate to an OSMA issue questionnaire and their alignment with OSMA positions on legislative issues.
  2. Historical willingness of the candidate (if an incumbent) to work with the OSMA on legislative priorities, and
  3. Partisan lean of the district.
Occasionally, there are other significant factors that can alter this calculus (such as the candidate being a nationally divisive figure—an example of this is Jim Jordan), but excepting this situation, the endorsement for these races usually then proceeds by group acclamation unless a member of the PAC specifically extracts a race to reconsider the recommended endorsement of.

RFS Representation at AMA Annual Meeting

Five Ohio resident physicians represented our state and specialty societies at the 2026 AMA Annual Meeting in Chicago, where delegates from across the country met to debate and adopt policies affecting physicians, trainees, and patients. 

Ohio was represented by:

  • Megan Chiu, PGY-3 General Surgery, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center – AMA RFS Delegate
  • Brandon Francis, PGY-5 Cardiology, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center – OSMA Alternate Delegate
  • Glen McClain, PGY-2 Anesthesiology, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center – American College of Legal Medicine Alternate Delegate
  • Elana Sitnik, PGY-3 Medicine-Pediatrics, MetroHealth Medical Center – AMA RFS Delegate
  • Kiersten Woodyard De Brito, PGY-3 Plastic Surgery, University of Cincinnati – American Society of Plastic Surgeons Alternate Delegate

Ohio's Resident & Fellow Section delegates helped advance policies addressing issues that directly impact physician trainees and patient care. Among the actions adopted during the meeting were:

  • Support for fully funded rides home after overnight and extended shifts as a fatigue mitigation strategy for residents and fellows.
  • Advocacy to protect international medical graduates (IMGs) and trainees with pending visa applications, along with expanded resources to help learners navigate immigration-related uncertainty.
  • Support for protecting immigrant patients' access to care, including policies that safeguard patient privacy and limit immigration enforcement activities in healthcare settings.
  • Strengthened AMA advocacy on artificial intelligence, affirming that AI in medicine must remain physician-led with appropriate transparency, oversight, safety standards, accountability, and meaningful physician involvement in clinical decision-making.

These actions reflect the AMA's continued commitment to supporting resident and fellow physicians while advancing policies that strengthen patient care, physician well-being, and the future of medicine. The OSMA RFS congratulates these Ohio physicians for their service and thanks them for representing the interests of Ohio trainees on the national stage.
