Opponent Hearings on Anti-Vaccine Legislation

OSMA continues to participate in advocacy efforts in opposition to Ohio House Bill 248, a gravely concerning legislative proposal regarding vaccinations. Members of the Ohio House Health Committee heard from hundreds of anti-vaccine activists and other proponents in support of HB 248 in proponent hearings several weeks ago. On Tuesday, the medical community had its first chance to dispel the myths and misinformation the committee heard from the proponents, as well as to emphasize the serious threat HB 248 poses to our critical public health framework.

State Budget Update

Your OSMA advocacy team is working hard to communicate to legislators about the impact of policies in the budget proposals that impact medicine in Ohio. Last week, the Ohio Senate voted 25-8, along party lines, to pass its version of House Bill 110, the $75 billion two-year state operating budget for FY 2022-2023. As you may recall from our earlier communications on the budget, the Ohio House passed its version of the budget legislation in April. Now, both chambers must agree on what provisions from each version of the bill will be kept in the final budget proposal.

Medical Board's June Meeting Summary

The State Medical Board of Ohio met on June 9, 2021. Highlights from the meeting include topics of podiatric scope of practice and its rule-making process, new conditions approved for treatment with medical marijuana, and physician feedback on the Duty to Report CME requirement.
