While the OSMA supports price transparency, the law that was passed would have been impossible for medical practices to implement. The Common Pleas Court previously ruled in our favor and permanently enjoined the law from taking effect. The State of Ohio and State Representative James Butler appealed.
If the law was implemented, the administrative burden for physicians to comply would have resulted in $100 millions in expense and thousands of hours of time with no significant benefit to patients. This case is a reminder that the OSMA advocates for you by fighting for reasonable, workable public policy initiatives that affect the practice of medicine whether the fight plays out in the legislative, executive or legal arenas. As for price transparency reforms, the OSMA expects that the legislature and interested parties will continue to deliberate in pursuit of price transparency that will allow Ohio patients to anticipate costs and make more informed decisions about their care.
We will update you should any significant reform occur.
