OOS Education Update

New E/M Requirements and 2021 Coding Update

The OOS partnered with the AAO to provide education for physicians and staff on the latest coding updates and the new E/M requirements. AAO received 33 registrations from Ohio for this course. Participants earned 4 AMA PRA Category 1™ credits and 4 hours of Category A, IJCAHPO credit. The opportunity to order the recorded version ended on April 18.

2021 OOS Virtual Annual Meeting

Due to the Covid-19 gathering restrictions, your OOS board made the decision to plan the 2021 annual meeting in a combination of on-demand and live webinar formats. Speakers pre-recorded their presentations that were available as ‘homework.’ This was a well-received feature as we received many comments such as “I liked reviewing the information in advance and I think it will help me remember more of the presentations.”

OOS president Dr. Kristopher Kelly opened the Feb. 27 webinar. It was moderated by OOS Executive Director Todd Baker with clinical commentary by OOS president-elect Dr. Carla Ford. Speakers joined in to recap their session and provided clinical pearls. The polling feature was used to assess learning and engage the audience, and was very successful in allowing for questions and discussion. While the CME credit has expired, you can view the presentations here.

In addition to the education, Todd Baker provided a legislative update and Dr. Arun Hura gave an update from The committee on Young Ophthalmologists. To be presented to the OOA board, the duties of the Committee on Young Ophthalmologists shall include, but not be limited to the following:

  1. Establish and maintain a state-wide section to connect and network residents, fellows, and ophthalmologists <5 years out of training

  2. Provide a forum for education and discussion as it pertains to advocacy at local, state, and federal levels

  3. Provide opportunities for professional growth and career advancement

  4. Coordinate the OOS Advocacy Ambassadors meeting at the annual Mid-Year Forum

99 registered (89 physicians and 10 APP/NP/RN) and 92 joined the webinar. And...we started on time at 8:00 am and ended on time exactly at 11:00 am!

Overall the meeting was a great success.

“I thought the availability of these lectures for review on my time schedule was important and more beneficial to me. The quality of the lectures was excellent and so were the topics. Excellent job in organizing this event, and the technology was easy.”

“Very helpful. Afford the opportunity to review the presentation multiple times gaining clarity.”

“I enjoy it in that I could listen at my own time. “

“I thought the quality of the presentations was excellent. The technology was surprisingly good. I wound up doing the entire conference and presentations on my phone and it worked great.”
