OSMA Joins AMA, Other Organizations in Opposition to Federal Allied Practitioner Scope of Practice Legislation

Last week, the American Medical Association delivered a letter to congressional Chairmen and Ranking Members from the Committees on Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce, regarding H.R. 8812, the “Improving Care and Access to Nurses Act,” or the “I CAN Act.”

OSMA was among the dozens of national and state medical societies and associations that signed on to this opposition letter, expressing concerns that this bill would negatively impact the quality of care received by Medicare and Medicaid patients by expanding the scope of practice of nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, certified registered nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists, and physician assistants.

Read the letter here for more information on H.R. 8812.
