Regulatory/Medical Board Update

The State Medical Board of Ohio met on Wednesday, July 12.

The Board unanimously approved Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) as a condition for recommendation of medical marijuana. The Board did not approve Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or Autism Spectrum Disorder for inclusion. The addition of IBS brings the list of conditions treatable with medical marijuana up to 26 conditions.

Additionally, the Board approved amending its license application questions to align with nationally recognized mental health practices for physicians. Specifically, the Board voted to align the questions with model language published by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). The FSMB worked closely with the Lorna Breen Foundation to create the model question language. The Foundations mission is to “is to reduce burnout of health care professionals and safeguard their well-being and job satisfaction.” The Board’s action is a positive step towards normalizing mental health care for health care professionals. Although the Board did not approve specific question language at its meeting, it will do so in the near future. Please stay tuned for updates.
