The Ohio Senate continues its deliberations on the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 state operating budget (House Bill 96), with hundreds of budget amendments up for consideration. OSMA continues to be on hand for the important funding discussions occurring in committee hearings, and the Senate Finance Committee is currently scheduled for another series of hearings next week.
After review of all amendments, the Senate anticipates unveiling a substitute budget bill in the first week of June. Currently, legislators are aiming for a mid-June floor vote on the spending package in order to allow time for any potential conference committee meetings needed to iron out differences between the final Senate-passed version of the budget and the version of HB 96 passed by the Ohio House in early April. As a reminder, by law, the final budget legislation must be passed out of both chambers and sent to Governor DeWine for his signature by June 30.
Stay tuned during this final stretch of activity on the state budget for more updates from OSMA on any key items impacting the practice of medicine!
