Understanding and Managing Claim Denials

Live Zoom Webinar

Submitting claims for payment to Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance programs can be onerous, but luckily, most go through and are paid. However, there are times—no matter how diligent the billing is—denials, underpayment and miss-payment of services happens.

Some issues are easy to fix, others require intervention at a higher level. This webinar will review the most common denials, miss payments and claim mishaps with proven strategies to get the care provided paid. In addition to lecture, there will be time for questions, clarification and sharing of information between participants and the presenter using the Zoom Q&A and Chat. Examples will be provided for “take home” review to reinforce the learning.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Explain how the fee schedules can answer many questions on denials, different payment based on location and payment levels for diagnostic testing;
  • Correctly submit claims for prevention and a condition visit on the same day;
  • Identify how diagnoses coding can block some services from being paid (wrong order of ICD 10 codes, unspecified codes and automatic denial codes) and how modifiers can help get a claim through edits and paid or stop a claim and get an immediate denial; and,
  • Appeal Medicare Advantage claim denials that should be paid.
