Recent Study Reveals Increase in Ohio
Physician Burnout During the Pandemic

A recently published study of survey responses from over 1,500 physicians reveals higher levels of physician burnout during the pandemic. In addition, Ohio's residents in training saw higher levels of burnout than physicians in general. These results help confirm the importance of efforts to focus on healthcare worker well-being now and into the future. OSMA is committed to this effort through the launch of the Well-Being CARE Service—a confidential and free assessment and referral tool available to every physician and healthcare worker in Ohio.

Medical Board Update
Telehealth Regulation Progress

The Medical Board met on November 9, 2022. Staff for the Board explained that regulations governing the practice and administration of telehealth services are continuing through the approval process. Specifically, the final step before the rules become effective is review by the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review. The Board anticipates beginning the JCARR review process before the end of the year. OSMA has worked with the Medical Board to improve the regulations for physicians, for example allowing physicians to establish the physician-patient relationship via a telehealth videoconference meeting as opposed to a required initial in-person meeting. OSMA will continue to monitor these regulations, engage our members for feedback, and provide updates.
