How did you hear about the OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars stipend opportunity?
Our OSMA Medical Student Section informed me of the stipend opportunity, and it seemed like the perfect support for my internship.
Tell us about your summer internship program. What are you working on?
I will be exposed to the subdisciplines of Urology with exposure in the OR and ambulatory settings varying from benign to oncologic interventions. I will also participate in weekly didactics and stimulation sessions with the Urology residents and faculty. My research focuses on social determinants of health for PSA screening of individuals with prostate cancer, and analyzing surgical intervention vs. conservational management of large Staghorn kidney stones.
What impact has the OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars program had on you and your medical school goals and pursuits?
Having the support of the OSMA Foundation has meant a lot to me and enabled me to pursue my internship to explore the field of Urology. It also provided me with an avenue to advocate for issues in the state of Ohio. I have had the opportunity to connect with doctors within the OSMA foundation and learn about their passion.
What’s next for your medical career journey?
I will be starting my second year of medical school this fall and hoping to present at the American Urology Association Conference next spring!
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I love to DJ, I hope to use this summer to pick up some gigs and earn on the side too!
